Are you pregnant and planning to travel?

Columbus Direct offers certain cover for medical expenses, cancellation and curtailment costs as standard until your 25th week. Our Pregnancy Extension Option provides cover from your 26th week up to your 30th week including cover for childbirth and care of the newborn. Conditions apply.

If you're planning to travel while pregnant, you want to be especially sure that you're properly protected against any eventualities. That's why we've put extra thought into protecting you and your unborn child while travelling.

Take a look at some of the key features:

  • Certain pregnancy cover available as standard until your 25th week
  • Extend cover until your 30th week and include cover for childbirth and care of the newborn from your 26th week onwards with our Pregnancy Extension Option (click here for details and conditions)
  • Cover includes cancellation and curtailment due to pregnancy complications
  • When named on the policy, up to three children (aged 2-18) and up to two infants (under 2 years) go free when travelling with their parent or grandparent. (Excludes any optional cover for pre-existing medical conditions)
  • Pre-existing medical cover available subject to medical screening. If you have pre-existing medical conditions and would like to take out our Pregnancy Extension Option, please call us to apply for cover by phone*
  • 19 days cooling-off period to decide if the cover is right for you (provided you haven't claimed or started your trip)

*It is important to note that there will be no cover under the Pregnancy Extension if you have any Pre-Existing Medical Condition which could have an adverse impact on your pregnancy and which has not been declared to us and noted on the Schedule.

Pregnancy Cover

Covered as Standard:

Our policies include certain cover for pregnancy up to the end of week 25 in respect of medical expenses, cancellation and curtailment costs if you meet all of the following criteria:

  • no complications exist with the pregnancy at the time the insurance is purchased or the Trip is booked, whichever is the later
  • the pregnancy did not result from assisted reproductive programmes
  • you are not travelling against doctor's advice, have not been given a terminal prognosis and are not planning to get medical treatment or convalescent care on your trip
  • it is not a multiple pregnancy

Please note our standard cover does not include childbirth or care of the newborn.

Covered with our Pregnancy Extension Option:

Where you have applied for and paid the appropriate additional premium, this policy extends to provide certain cover for unexpected costs (including childbirth and care of a newborn born after the 25th week) for a pregnancy where:

  • your trip does not extend beyond the 30th week of pregnancy
  • no complications exist with the pregnancy at the time the insurance is purchased or the Trip is booked, whichever is the later
  • you are not travelling against doctor's advice, have not been given a terminal prognosis and are not planning to get medical treatment or convalescent care on your trip
  • it is not a multiple pregnancy
  • the pregnancy did not result from assisted reproductive programmes
