We have 25 years of experience under our belt

Columbus Direct started out in 1988 in the UK and was the first company to sell travel insurance direct to consumers there. We were also the first to fully sell travel insurance online (including sending policy documents via email in PDF format). In 2001, we brought this winning formula to Australia and, shortly after, to New Zealand. Since then, we’ve learned a lot from you. We keep evolving to make sure we meet your needs in the ever-changing world of travel. That’s why Columbus Direct is now one of the longest standing online travel insurance brands in the region.

How we work with our underwriters at Lloyd’s

Under a binding authority with the insurers, Columbus Direct is authorised by them to arrange, issue, vary and cancel those travel insurance products on their behalf. The insurers can be contacted c/o Lloyd's Australia Limited, Level 9, 1 O'Connell Street, Sydney NSW 2000, Australia.

We comply with the General Insurance Code of Practice

The General Insurance Council of Australia Limited has developed the General Insurance Code of Practice (the Code). The Code is a self-regulatory code that insurers can choose to adopt. Both Columbus Direct and Lloyd’s support and comply with the Code and embrace its objectives of raising the standards of practice and service in the insurance industry.

Lloyd’s is a member of the Insurance Council of New Zealand. Both Lloyd’s and Columbus Direct support its Fair Insurance Code.

How we handle complaints

If you should have a complaint regarding us, or any issue in respect of your insurance, you should follow our Dispute Resolution Process, a printed copy of which is available on request. In the first instance this means contacting us to advise us of your complaint. We will then provide you with a full copy of our Dispute Resolution Process explaining the steps in our process and the associated timeframes within which you should expect a response. Dependent on the nature of your complaint we may request you put it in writing to help us in investigating and resolving it.
